Google says IP addresses don’t matter for backlinks and rankings

Google’s John Mueller said “no” when asked if IP addresses matter for backlinks and search rankings. For example, does it matter that some of your links to your US site come from Australia? Stuff like that.

John replied this on Twitter when asked “Does the location of the IP address make a difference in the ranking of a site? I have a site for a company based in the United States and the IP address is in the Utah, but some online services show it from Australia. have a site “in” Australia? Then another SEO said yes, “But I think IP addresses are important when it comes to your backlink profile.” John simply replied “no”.

Many SEOs think IP c-blocks are important when SEO and linking. But Google has downplayed the importance of IP addresses for years and years.
