How to Add Hyperlinks in Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop

Adding hyperlinks in Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator isn’t exactly easy, but it is possible. Here’s what you need to do.


With any type of project or presentation, it can be helpful to include links to resources or citations. It’s easy to do this in Microsoft Powerpoint or Word. But what about our favorite image editing programs?

Adding hyperlinks in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator isn’t as easy as selecting text or right-clicking an image. the option isn’t really built into either program. If you need to add a hyperlink to text, an image, or any other object in Photoshop or Illustrator, you’ll need to get a little creative.

The easiest way to add a link in Photoshop is to use the Slice tool. The problem here is that you will have to save and share your document as an HTML file.

Once you’ve opened your file in Photoshop and decided where to add a hyperlink, select the Slice tool. You will find it by clicking on the Crop tool from the Tools menu and hold down the mouse button until you see a list; you want the one with a knife icon. You can also use the Photoshop keyboard shortcut VS.

Use the Slice tool as you would use the Selection tool. Draw a bounding box around the part of the image you want to add a link to. Right click your newly inserted slice and click Change slice options.

In the dialog that follows, insert your link in the URLs domain. If you want the link to open in a new window, select “_Empty” in the drop-down menu for Target. Click on Okay.

Once you are ready to save your file, click To file > Export > Save for Web (Legacy). In the dialog that comes after, the only thing you need to select is Preset. You can select one of the JPG or PNG options and click To safeguard.

To save hyperlinks in Photoshop, you need to save for web.

Type your file name and click the File format scrolling menu. Then select HTML and images. To hit To safeguardand you are done.

Finally, the Photoshop hyperlink belongs to you.

You can add a link in Illustrator using a similar approach to the one described earlier. After all, Illustrator Slice The tool works just like Photoshop’s – it creates a score that separates parts of the image into “objects” that can be assigned URLs.

Another method is to “hide” a hyperlink in Illustrator. This causes clicking an object in front of the link to activate it.

To do this, select the Text tool (or press J), and insert your link above the image or object you want to add the link to. Be sure to include http:// when you add the link.

You’re going to have to find a way to hide the link text. You can place it behind the object by right click and selecting To organise > send to bottom. You can also change its color to the same color as your background or the object you’re linking it to, as long as it’s a solid color.

The process of adding a hyperlink in Adobe Illustrator involves a few extra steps.

To hit To file > Save as. In the next window, enter your file name. For your file format, select PDF.
